It's been recovered.

Looks like the thief (or thieves) were looking for a joyride. Coat-hanger down the passenger door to unlock. Shaved key to start. Drove it off my driveway. The little dipshits didn't steal anything (other than a Blitz shift-knob that came with the car, and was obnoxiously loose on the stick anyway), but they took off my license plates and didn't even have the goddamned courtesy to leave them in my yard or something. Now I have to go get new plates.

I was just certain that the little fucktard would be smart enough to realize what was under the hood, and that I'd get my car back, sans RB. I got lucky

So they joyride it for what seems (based on gas consumption) like about 15 minutes and ditch it in an alley. Here are some observations:

1) The person(s) that stole my car is an asshole

2) Why don't I have a rev limiter again?!? (Once I drove my car out of impound, I had a blinking CEL that went away after a couple minutes...knock sensor anyone?)

3) My turbo sounds even sadder than it did on Friday. Could they have done the final deed and destroyed it? I should probably get that thing rebuilt? Yeah. Rebuild. I really wanted that honor.

4) Haha at them. My clutch is so badly burned up that as soon as you hit 7psi, it just slips. This makes my car not very fun to drive for me, and I'm not trying to hoon it around. Those idiots would have had more fun in a Buick Le Sabre (assuming the clutch is still good in it).

5) I'd only heard of shaved keys in passing. Now I have one. Will only use my powers for good.

Anyway, thought I'd share/vent.

I've had 2 cars stolen before and it sucks. Mine was only missing some tools and CD's. Guess they couldn't handle a vented BOV (it'd stall if not driven properly). As for my wife's car all they took was her fuzzy cherry steering wheel cover. They didn't even take the MOMO wheel it was covering.

Dude.. I feel you. I went all out "Garda, Brink, NSA, FBI, CIA, DEA, PD" security on mine when they stole my plates.

Glad you got it back in close to the same condition you got it in.

Glad you got yours back too.

Side note: I've heard differing reports about the atmo-BOVs...I mean, mine is a recirc (because stock), and I've heard people say that the atmos cause idle issues, but I'm not really clear on why (something-something-run rich when pressure blows off-something).

What's annoying is that there's really no good sense in "stealing" the plates. I mean, of course I've reported them as stolen. What do they hope to accomplish? They could have been nice about it and just dumped em in my yard.

Oh, and the little shit LEFT MY MOONROOF OPEN IN THE RAIN WTFFFFFF??!?

That's exactly why. When the stock system uses a pre-turbo AFM, it'll suck in a certain amount of air, add the correct amount of fuel and you're good to go. When you vent, the system still thinks the air is there, so it adds the corresponding amount of fuel. Unfortunately there's not enough air and it'll run rich, choke and die.

I had that thought as well. PD called my ass 2 days after I reported it and said they had found my plates and the owner of the car they switched plates with. All they said was that they're being convicted. ALL FOR PLATES. Seriously.. fuckin pay for your registration.
WTF FUCKED UP! Hows your interior?

Not too bad actually. The dispatcher via the officer told me that "there's interior damage" and I was freaking out a bit, but I got there, and the seats were a bit damp. No biggie. Still an asshole move.

I had my old 2000 Dakota Sport (V8 baby!) stolen once as well; it was recovered a week later sans bedliner, and with the addition of many many scratches on the door panels where the idiots tried to remove the factory speakers and gave up. It's a shitty feeling; I'm glad you got yours back!

Sucks man. You must have been dealing with some class A dumbasses if they couldn't figure out how to get the speakers out. The least they could have done is googled it and saved your door panel the pain ($10 OEM paper speakers < $100 door panel or w/e).

Haha, right? Also, took the bedliner out but left my headunit, wheels, etc. Hilariously stupid.

glad you got it back!

be sure to do a thorough check before hooning. sounds like you've identified some issues already. Some other common ones from theft recovery is undercarriage damage because they fly over speed bumps in a manner that an owner of a car wouldn't. loosened wheel lug nuts because they consider stealing the wheels but don't. And stolen insurance and registration cards, they have your address on them, and can be used for stealing your identity etc.

Joy. They may have stolen my registration (realized that today when I put my new Registration in my glovebox because new plates), so...dunno what to do about that. I don't think they have enough PI to fuck with me though...hopefully.

Didn't think to check the lugs. My rims are cheap knockoffs (not literally), so they probably didn't try to steal em, but I'll check that tonight (haven't driven it since I got it home from lockup).

Good lookin out.

my parents had their window broken and the only thing taken was their registration docs, they told their bank and added some sort of account monitoring thing to look for fraud. Nothing came of it, but perhaps just keep a look out for that kind of nonsense, trying to open credit cards in your name.

another guy I know had his car stolen, they did take his car and dumped it on a random set of steelies, lug nuts not actually done up and one came off as he drove it home from the police yard.

one I just remembered, garage door opener, that gives them access to your place. If you are missing it you can just reprogram your door to work with your other remotes and not that one.

Thankfully no garage opener, but I'll give my bank a call today.

Thanks for the info :)
